Apps Like Empower (Now Tilt): 12 Cash Advance Apps Compared by Cost

Page last reviewed: October 30, 2026 · Reviewed for accuracy by Betty Walsh

Empower, the cash advance app, renamed itself Tilt in August 2025, and its advances work the same way. (Empower the retirement and investing company is a different business, and this page isn't about it.) Tilt advances $10 to $500 for an $8 monthly membership, which it waives if you ask. Delivery is free onto its own debit card or by standard transfer, and sending money to another bank instantly costs $1 to $8 by amount, or 3% from $300. For $100 repaid in 14 days, Tilt costs $13.00 sent instantly to your bank, or $8.00 onto its card, membership included.

Here's what 12 other cash advance apps charge for the same advance, worked out from each company's own pricing pages, terms and help center, checked on October 30, 2026. Where an app's own pages disagree, or it publishes only a range, we show the range.

The table below shows what $100 and $200 cost with Tilt and 12 other apps.

  • For $100 sent instantly, Dave, EarnIn, MoneyLion, Albert, Klover and Chime cost less than Tilt once memberships are counted.
  • For $200, EarnIn, Albert and Chime cost less than Tilt's $15.00.
  • If Tilt waives its membership, it costs $5.00 for $100 sent instantly.
  • At standard speed EarnIn, MoneyLion, Albert, Klover, Chime and Current cost nothing, while Tilt costs $8.00 with its membership.
  • Chime, Varo, Current and Cash App pay only into their own accounts, so their instant price assumes you bank with them.

Why People Look for an Empower Alternative

  • You'd rather not pay a monthly membership. Tilt's $8 is charged every month, whether or not you take an advance, unless you email and ask Tilt to waive it. EarnIn, MoneyLion, Albert, Klover, Chime, Cash App, Varo and Current don't charge a membership for advances.
  • You need more than $500. Tilt's offers top out at $500, and it says the average offer in the third quarter of 2026 was $96 for first-time customers and $178 for others. MoneyLion, Albert, Klover, Chime, Varo and Current can go higher, though few people qualify for their top amounts.
  • You live in Connecticut, Maine or Washington, DC. Tilt isn't offered there. In Connecticut, EarnIn, Cleo, Chime, Current and FloatMe aren't offered either; in Maine, Cleo and Chime aren't, and Brigit caps advances at $250.

Tilt's Own Fees and Limits

Tilt's instant delivery fee depends on the amount; delivery onto the Tilt debit card or by standard transfer is free. Maryland and Wisconsin cap the instant fee.

AdvanceMost statesMaryland and Wisconsin
$10$1.00$1.00
$50$3.00$3.00
$100$5.00$5.00
$150$6.00$6.00
$200$7.00$7.00
$300$9.00$7.50
$500$15.00$7.50
  • The $8 membership starts after a 14-day trial for first-time customers; returning customers pay at once. Tilt waives it if you email [email protected] and ask, and some long-time customers pay $6 or nothing.
  • Delivery onto the Tilt debit card arrives in about a minute, a standard transfer in about one business day, and a paid instant transfer to another bank usually within an hour.
  • No interest, tips or late fees, and Tilt says it doesn't consider credit reports for advances. It reimburses bank overdraft fees its repayment causes.
  • Tilt takes repayment on your next detected payday and needs three business days after that before offering another advance. It isn't offered in Connecticut, Maine or Washington, DC.

Legal status: In October 2025 a federal court in California ruled that Empower's cash advance is consumer credit under the Military Lending Act and refused to send the case to arbitration; Tilt has appealed.
